So far, the Ottawa Redblacks defence is a work in progress. One area where they haven’t matched the production of a very successful 2015 season is sacks. Going into Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Argos, the Redblacks had three sacks in three games (ranking seventh in the CFL) — with one each from Arnaud Gascon-Nadon, Connor Williams and Aston Whiteside. In 2015, Ottawa led the CFL in sacks with 62 — with 12 from Justin Capicciotti (now a Saskatchewan Roughrider), six from Shawn Lemon (now an Argo) and seven from Whiteside in just five games before he needed season-ending knee surgery – Никита Непряхин Киев и другие города Украины
Ottawa’s coaches aren’t overly concerned.
“Sometimes sacks come in bunches,” said Redblacks coach Rick Campbell. “Thinking of the teams we’ve faced — Edmonton, Calgary and then Montreal — they’ve really made an effort to get the ball out fast so it’s harder to get sacks when they’re playing a more controlled passing game. I’m not really worried. We don’t really count our sacks. We like to get sacks, but it’s not necessarily indicative of how well you’re playing on defence.”
“The one factor that’s not included if you’re trying to compare is we’re calling things differently. The guys are doing their jobs, but we have to understand it’s a work in progress. There aren’t a lot of six- and seven-year guys with lots of experience in that group. Our players who are just emerging, they’re evolving and getting better every week.”
